Oooooh yeah it was a long day today.

Wake up early and kick it by the sauna to be sure to be at the right weight,

not so much to lose but it wasnt that easy.

i usually prefer hot bath over Dry sauna.

it really sucks too much energy out of your body.

everybody is happy, everybody is on weight.

Wednesday, the last day of training.

I felt definitly more relax and ready to go fight, and thats good cause thats the day the camera finally showed up to take some footage and interviewing the fighters.

I felt a little bit tense in the morning, but afternoon training was much better.

Start to get my body reflex back since the jetlag did put me into sleep mode a little.

But yeah from now on its getting better and better.

Also there was people from their gym training, actually i have to say they do that pretty seriously. I saw a guy run until a paper basket to throw up is lunch such he was pushed hard...yepp

And after the training, the gym ordered lots of good thai food that we ate watching muay thai video and sharing funny story.

Alright, after all the annoying but necessary medical check, today we finally had a real day for us.

The hotel we are staying is in Fontana, 1hour drive from the coast. But once again we really appreciate the room we are staying at

Relaxing watching TV, or free wi-fi

Can kick it by the indoor pool if you feel like, or access the fitness room with treadmill.

After one more good breakfast, we all went for a morning training at the gym

OK here we are at Double dose gym, with the owner Bryan Dobler who is a real nice guy and passionate by the sports.

Medical check day

Today was a day devoted to the medical regulations to fit in order to fight in the state of california.

We have been told it would take time, ...if only we have knew how long.

8am after a little jogging, lets start happy time with a wonderfull healthy breakfast.

Healthy or tasty, yes thats a gauffre Itakura is making :)

And then, LIMO TIME!!!

Straight to the medical center, arrived around 12pm, starting all kind of test, Blood, eyes retina, physical, and especially IRM or RMI scan.

And i attest all that on the name of the Governor Schwartzenegger himself, yeah baby.

Waiting was so long, i fall asleep during the 25min of RMI, i dont remember when we exactly finished but all i can say is by the time we ate something and drive to our new hotel, its was 22pm past.

On the way we had a look at the gym we have access to train at, Doblers's gym. Certainly the biggest gym i have seen so far. We will also do the interview and other stuff there.

More info tomorow about that.

Last night was the first good clue that its an excellent idea that the promoter flew us 1week prior to the fight.

Even having fighting hard all day to keep awake, when finally time arrive to go to bed it was like a deliverance.

Unfortunatly, it was shortly before the jetlag hit us.

At 5am exactly Itakura and me were both awake in our bed trying deseperatly to sink back in our sleep, without any success.

I tryed anything, counting sheep, relaxing, not thinking anything, but my body wasnt falling for it.

I was awake and there was nothing to do for it.

I stayed in bed for a while, then finally at 7am went for jogging.

tonight, i will drink camomille, heard it help :)

An easy resume of the day in picture :

Leaving Narita sunday afternoon at 18:45pm with singapore airline. Certainly the best airline when you need to travel for 8h straight.

Thats it, after the custome control and other boring paper works, we could get our first view of Los angeles at 12pm still sunday....yeah so cool to go back in time :)

27.....turning point?

So rude of me, in my previous post im talking about retirement ceremony without explaining the reasons.

Actually since end of last year, around my 27 birthday, i started to feel something different about me and my life in japan.

I still enjoy it and am gratefull for the way things have evolved these last 5 years.

I did lots of fights, experienced lots of strongs feelings, discovered more about peoples, about japan, and also a lot lot lot about myself.

I feel like i achieved enought, and thats its now time for a new start in my life.

Thats why i took the decision to come back to europe.

I dont really have a speciffic idea about what i will do at the moment. But i feel like every doors are open and i should try my luck with anything i feel like.

As much as i love kickboxing & muay thai, other center of interest have started to pill up in my mind.
Travelling, Relationship, Buisness, spending more time with my familly,....and many other things we will see.

Maybe im gonna open an icecream shop in geneva, come have a look someday :)

Still before that, a last challenge is coming up....more info soon...

Road trip to Izu

Last week end, i have been lucky enought to be integrally invited by my longtime friends from scramble to a great road trip from tokyo to Izu.

I have to say a big congratulation for the organisation, we had 2 cars to carry 15 pro fighters qlong the day,...a day that was rich in emotions.

After leaving at 8am, first stop was a delicious lunch.

I pick the delicious rice and sashimi straight from the ocean behinf the window. as good as you can it looks

Then we came accross a lighthouse, and decided to take a look.

Actually, im very affraid of Height, yepp scarry time!!

Later a stop at a "strange museum"
So, who got more scare?

Next step on tour was a stop at a strawberry farm. I wasnt sure about that, it was cold and raining and wll i wanted was to be in onsen.

But the deal is that you can pick and eat all the strawberry you possibily can for 30min, and seriously they were sooo delicious that 30min just wasnt enought

Then it was finally time for my favorite moment of the day. Onsen!!!

Unfortunatly you understand we cant really walk around taking pics in a place where everybody is nude.....
..or can't we?.....

I was feeling lazy today, and with the cold here in tokyo i was really hesitant about rather going to gym, or.....going to meet my bed.

Turn out the gym is always the good choice (of course).

Not only there wasnt many scramble guys (3with me) letting more time with trainer to improve technics;

But specially right at the end of the training i saw a familliar face entering scramble :

CAOL UNO, thats right baby!!

I immediatly catch my camera to ask him a picture, and second big surprise, he heard about me and said he likes my style. and here i am blushing like a school girl :)

More seriously he is gonna fight at the world known UFC next march. In UFC elbows are allowed and its a new horizon Uno woud love to explore.

He can count on me anytime to work on it!!

So tartiflette is a typical meal from my hometown in the french alps (yeah im born in france).

It consist of potatoes, ognions, grilled bacon, topped by a full cheese named "reblochon".

Lots of fun last saturday at scramble's champion 's seminar

After a warm up well done by wentz, we all showed and explain our favorite techniques. Then assisted the crowd to perfom it.

Kan chan showed power punch combination
Wentz taught some sharp elbows
I explain about clinch techniques
Koji send knees strikes
Masuda revealed counters to knock you down. Actually i learned a lot myself about that.

In the end i did a round of pads, but damned i was so tired by the sprint training of the previous day, i thought my legs would bailed on me.

Was a really great day, i would like to thanks all the people who came. Somebody even came from Hiroshima, yeah thats must be somebody who really loves kick ;)

And of course, thanks to all the staff of fitness gym who welcomed us sooooo well.

Greatly appreciated, ready to do another seminar anytime :)

Just back from Ishigaki island, and was just WONDERFULL!!

wasnt that easy to go there, had to take one first plane to okinawa, then one more to ishigaki and even one boat to Taketomi island.

First thing i could notice, its quite preserved there. No 7/eleven & drink machine every ten meters.

Also along the beach they really keep it very natural and wild.

you wont find any cafe/restaurant/terrasse/resort along the beach, letting you admire a truely beautifull scenery.

Other than that, most of people can speak some english, was quitte impressed.

Life there is also cheaper, taxi, restaurant, car location doesnt cost that much.

Really wish to go again at least once

Yeah that was a nice event, a little bit long (3pm until 9pm) but still a good event.

I was very happy to see Boo sasiprapa in action outside thailand for once, i didnt know his japanese opponent.

here is the id, sorry for the quality, its not in full and its from my 5000yen seat, so certainly NOT the best view. Just enought to make an idea of the fight.

p.s : the fight was at 63kg, what weight does Boo fight usually?

Student and friend Sugahara san put up a very great show at meguro's live station.

Music was great, and connection with public was really working good.

Aha about the audience, i was one of the only boy among a big crowd of young japanese college girls. yeah quite different than a boxing audience.

Vs Naruepol epilogue...

I lost on points after 5rounds, but i think i had actually lost the fight before to step in the ring.

I was stressed, scared ans unsure about that fight and was putting Naruepol too much on a pedestal.

I forget the number 1 rule of the sport : "always believe in yourself!!"

Once in the ring i was a little bit relieve to see that 1m80cm isnt that tall finally.
Small relieve, cause for the rest he is as good a i guessed.

Basicly he just waited for me the whole 5 rounds, seing coming, countering, cancelling all my attacks.
Of course in that case i usually calm the pace and wait too, but He his the KING i have to go make the fight, he doesnt have too.

Globally i dont pretend i could won that one, but for sure i could have make a better fight.
The main enemy was myself here, my stress was keeping me from expressing correctly my body. I was just tense and predictable, couldnt express my boxing or kicks as usual.

His kicks, were by far the most painfull i ever received, Even more than kuntap who is pretty much a bone crusher.
Naruepol kicks are :
1) very fast,
2) terribly precise, (always the same spot on my rib)
3) have an incredible long reach,
4) snap your skin until middle of your back, leaving after shock a sensation like being sting by bees. im not jocking!

Even if he wasnt in danger, there was no playing around.
he was still serious, Tight guard, alert, and sending his kicks full power.

My corner mens from scramble gym, that i really wna thanks, did a great job. Cheering for me, trying to get som new gameplan every rounds.

I think somewhere in round 4 or 5 during clinch i could touch him with an elbow in the head, but unfortunatly it didnt let any damage.

In the last round, i thought i was getting usd to his speed and body language.
At some point after missing one of my low kick, i could feel a middle coming. That was a mistake of considerating is speed and reach, he caught me right under the chin.

I fall sit on my ass, luckily it was more the surprise than a bad domage that send me down. I get counted but still fine.

in the end, no surprise, he won unanimly the figth 46-50 from all judges.

i knew this fight would be dificult, but i was disapointed at myself not doing better against the top level fighter he is.

Fidel to the great man he is, Naruepol talked to me in the locker room.
He Saw i was disapointed in my fight, he told me not to give up and keeping going in the sports.

Rhaaa he is so cool, impossible to get mad at him. i respect him even more now.

Yeah i know, i know,...i promised myslef i would never do that "running thousands of stairs" training again.

But this time my gym mates had made me an offer i couldnt turn down :

As soon the training over, we would go straight to the swimming pool for the whole afternoon!!

It makes even more sense when the meteo is 30 degrees and 80% of humidity.

THe afternoon there was just great, not that busy, huge pool in shape of 2 circles.

Lots of fun and laugh, specially an epic water gun fight against a team......of 6 y.o childrens.

Then they usually bring back some omiyage (present) to friends.

This last sunday i follow my Bro's to their kickboxing gym, the TRUSTING GYM!!

Its a gym located in Nakano-shimbashi owned by Mister Nishida.

Nishida was, not so long ago, the heavy weight champion of AJKF.

There is always a good mood at the gym,

but training is still thought!!

About Nishida san, he used to live in USA for few years, and was a student of fairtex gym in san francisco.

I will try to upload some of his fight soon, very impressive to watch a heavy weight like him throwing such devastating middle kicks.

Yeah its on and official, next sunday 13th september, at diffa ariake tokyo, M-1 event, my next fight is up!

Im gonna face the world famous Naruepol Fairtex.

His record is about 219 fights for 171 wins.

Achievements :

Lumpini Welter champion in 1999 (against chokdee Por Pramuk)

And champion of thailand in 2001.

He fought recently a lot in europe at 70kg, under rules with no elbow and clinch.

But im gonna take him at his best weight of welter weight, and full muay thai rules (elbows and clinch ok).

Actually to tell you the truth, i am myself a HUGE fan of him.

So when the offer arrived to me i didnt hesitated to accept the defi.

Now, as a mark of my respect, im gonna give everything to make it a hard fight.

As you can see, he is a real technician, with a very tight guard and a long reach.

We went to YUGIHAMA beach spend a whole sunny day (kind of rare this summer).

Spend all the week between wonderfull : koh tao, koh pangan, and koh samui.

It was just for one week, a perfect balanced week between massages, delicious food, fun on beach, sun tanning, swiming, sightseeing, scuba diving, motorbike, ladyboys dancing show and much much more....

Here is a nice way of enjoying summer in tokyo.

There is a ferry boat going from hamamatsucho on tokyo bay for 2hours, also the cruise is all you can drink!!

If you wear yukata (japanese traditional clothe) you get a discount on the entrance.

Aha i dont think so.

To tell the truth, in one hand im glad i could keep the fight going with a heavier and more experienced thai fighter.

In another hand i really didnt fought as i should have do, i took way too much damages (actually its the first time i get that much damage in a fight), and didnt listen enough to my corner mens.

Finally the more the fights are coming the more im facing dangerous opponents.

So definitly I have to train harder and fight more seriously, if i want to continue on this road of fight life.

tomorow is gonna be a rought day.

Today at the weight check, most of us were having trouble adjusting. Including myslelf, i had 200grames over.

Not that difficult, after a go a the bathroom, i tryed once again without underwear that time and it was fine.

Different story for my opposent who was 2.7kg over. WTF 2.7kg thats a lot, did he thought the fight was 70kg??

Anyway it doesnt change anything, as usually i will give all i have on the ring.

Promotor M.Kobayashi and fighters were there.
The title match of Ishikawa and Maeda, and also the japanese team for the Thai vs Japan matchs.

It was easy to feel tension from everybody, most of declaration were short answers.

physical training

Yesterday i joined bungeling boyz to try a physical session.

I have to say i didnt expected such hard training, specially with such less equipement.
Indeed all we went ot use was a "obi" (belt) and a small ball.

Training was focus on resistance, speed, and explosivity.
Also it required some muscle i usually doesnt use, i found myself unable to do some exercices. very frustrating.

For sure im gonna go again next week.

This 2weeks were quite busy between, yakohama's port 150years celebration, odaiba, sumo tournament, thai festival, Koji's title match, nightclubs (just a little ;), so many delicious restaurants, birthday partys, asakusa's matsuri, boat trip...and much more.

Big up to Koji, last wednesday he gave everything in his title match for the J-NET welter belt.

He was maybe too much carefull in the early rounds (does that remind you someone?).

But then from the 4th round he didnt stop going forward and kicking like a crazy.

At the end of the 5th an extra round was needed to demark them.

In that 6th round he really going in strong, he was the agressor during all the round, his stamina was great.

I think his best weapon was his mental. He seemed unstopable.

...thats what i thought the morning following the celebration party.

As a next fight is already in view, i allowed myself a party night.

But after 2month of hard diet, few drinks were enough to make me feeling in a good mood :)

few more and i was pretty drunk,

Then, much more later with mix of different alcohol, i was definitly wasted.

Once again, i challenged my own limits ahaha

At least, i wasnt running naked in the garden of roppongi midtown :)

...i was fighting a thai guy, and like most of first time im never gonna forget it.

It was truely a richfull experience.
I could learn a lot during that 5 rounds.

But first, let me put you in the mood of the fight.

First of all, useless to say i was a lil bit stress about all this.
First time against a thai guy, who (of course) have a good record of +80 fights, with +60won.

Also the fight was agreed at 70kg wich from my last experience resulted as a bad KO lost for me (2007 against Hakuto)

And specially, i havent been fighting for the last 5 month.

Fortunatly, my scramble boyZ show me the way of the victory.

Endo managed to take the decision, i was impressed by the work he achieved on his steps.

from what i remember his opponent was facing trouble to reach him.

Then Naoto step up with an impressive KO victory in 1:25min only.

Just like he told me before his match :

"ITS SHOW TIME!!!"

Thanks to them both, from there i started to get a real positive mind about my match.

All the fight on the card went well.
The crowd could assist some nice tecnicks, some ko, and start to became a crowd on fire.

Nobody wasnt shy anymore to scream asking for action... ...It was the good time for my fight to come.

In the blue corner Kuntap entered the ring in first, on a good sound mix of big bass and traditional thai sound.

Im not the kind of waiting too long on the way to the rig, so ijust choose a music that pumped me up to go straight on the ring.

Then We started straight each other our own way-kru, the traditional dance use by thai fighters before the match. (its not usually used in ajkf)

I think Kuntap may have been surprised thad i did one.

Actually, It was a surprise for me as well, first i didnt plan to make one.

But when i heard that Kuntap was doing one, no way i would keep standing and waiting for him to finish.

So I ask my trainer Bin if he could teach me a good one, wich he nicely did. Thanks trainer.

After litteraly throwing some arrows (wich he mimed he broke), the fight finally started.

I was very carefull, cause i knew that his kick are used to break some ribbs.

Effectively i was carefull, or maybe i was just impressed, or maybe i just respected Kuntap a lil bit too much (to tell you the truth, im a fan of him since im arrived in tokyo);

anyway it resulted on me observing and trying too much to counter instead of being the aggresser.

Still it was a good choice to be carefull at first.

By the end of the second round his heavy middle kicks already did damage by lending on my elbow.

From the third round, i could get used to his kick and started to see them coming a lil bit more, and even catch them sometimes.

That remind me, how i was impressed by the good balance of kuntap.

Besides once or twice in early rounds, then i coulndt get him unballanced anymore for the rest of the fight. its not even balanced, its more like if i was trying to kick a tree, he wasnt moving at all.

But in an other hand, one thing that surprised me is that i could throw some good knees during the clinch. maybe he was just recovering during the clinch instead of placing some knees i dont know, still i could do well and try to go more in the clinch.

Everytime i get to my corner for the interval, i asked them how they find the fight was going. before the last round they absolutely recommand me to rush and give everything.

So i did, beside my elbow i didnt had any damage, it was the last round, the "all or nothing".

As a kamikaze, i just went forward. I need to check a video, but from what i remember i could throw some kicks, elbows, knees and few uppercut.

Thats probably what made the difference in the whole fight and help to give me the victory.

i get the decision from only 1point difference 49:48/50:49/50:49

Fight was very tough, i get kicked stronger than i ever experienced, and frustrated of not being able to control the fight as im doing usually.

For this reason i wasnt really satisfy of my performance and didnt feel like the reel winner.

But i would say most important beyond win or loose, i could enrich my experience.

To me, in that fight following a gameplan and keeping control of your mind was much more important than using power to rush on the opponent.

i will try to apply that again to my next fights...

Its 5:30pm when the scramble boyz decide to go to a yakiniku restaurant.

Slowly we forget the tension of the fight , start throwing jokes, tell about what movie we saw recently.

Im happy to see that jackass is pretty appreciated here too :)

Tomorow is gonna be a tought day, for all of us.

fighters are gonna take dommages,

seconds are gonna be under constant stress,

supporter are gonna lose their voice encouraging their favorite fighters,..

People usually ask me "why am i into boxing?.... whats my motivation?..."

And the truth is i dont really know either, if you look at it :

- i already have a confortable job that pay the bills (thx god cause fight money is ridiculous when you compare to other sports)

- i dont need to financially support my familly or to escape poverty

- I dont have angst or hate to evacuate (my childhood was relatively quiet in the country side of france's alps)

- Im not trying to become famous. (anyway who knows K1 champions except people interested in sports. Most of french dont even knows Jerome Lebanner, same for swiss with Andy Hug)

Yepp Nothing of the usual "cliché".

In fact im just fighting cause i love every aspect of the sport,

i love :
- the specific training for each fight

- the satisfaction you feel after a hard training session where you could overcome your limit

- the taste of the food at the first diner following the weight check and a hard diet

- the pleasure to step on the ring against oponnents always stronger then the precedent

- All your friends who came along to cheer you up before, during and after the fight, and that in any outcome.

- the pain in your body when you wake up the very next day, reminding you moment of the bout

- the free days of relaxing (and parties also) after all that time spent training seriously

- when a new challenge already comes to me, and its time again to get back on track

Globally, im not fighting to become the best, or not just to win.

in fact, Im just fighting against myself.

Win doesnt matter that much to me, all that matter is to be satisfyed of myself,

to get the feeling of having over-come my own limits.

Thats what really matter and give me the will to continue.

the same state of mind should apply in you daily life, it doesnt mater to be the best, or to beat your rival, it is to be satisfyed of yourself.

From there, your life will be full of achievement.

Just give the best of yourself, and life will give it back to you

I usually spend my saturday at staying in bed late, watching stupid video on youtube, having a good breakfast, training at gym lighter than during the week, then relaxing with friends.

But not today!

As i had planned to order (again) a new mouthpiece in yokohama, it went just on the right timing for a special training sesion around yokohama with my team mates Itakura, Wentz, Koji, and Takuro.

Because we are all badass fans of dragon ball and jacky-chan movie, doing a training who consist of running trought +100 steps of the stairs of a temple didnt sound strange to any of us.

So once you arrive half way, hard to look up when all you have in front of you is...more steps :

Here is the charming temple where you can try to recover your breath once you finally reached the exactly 174 steps :

Then each time you reach the top, you now have to get back to the bottom of all these steps.

Yepp still pretty long even view from the top, you cant even see the departure from there :

Ok, we spoted the place, now lets change in the bottom of the stairs, next to the highway.

gladely it wasnt so cold this afternoon.

Also when we heard that the WBC champion Naito had said that doing the full stairs 10 times is already a lot, we also decided that we would make it 12!!!

long week end...part 2

Because life isnt just about training, i get also some relax time.

That last saturday i went to a party at the french institute of tokyo, the theme was about anything related to french language.

There were good food from french speaking country, but FIRST OF ALL :

there was a tahitian dance exhibition!!

I know i sucks at taking pics, there is always somebody's head on it.

And the best is the dancer are actually some of my friends.

I know, im a lucky guy :)

that was one long fullfilled week end

first of all,

on this national day off of friday my friend Max had a match in shin karate event, K2.

If you never heard about it, quickly its exacly like kickboxing (k1 form) but on a tatami, + you have to throw at least 8kick in the round. dont ask me why about this last rule.

Also its a competition strictly for amateur fighters. its like a transition for the fighters from karate who wants to go on the professional kickboxing firection.

Fighters wears a gi (kimono if you prefer) and shin protection.

Fights are 1round of 2min only, as you can imagine there is no time to work on your opponent weakness. you just give it all from the begining until the final gong.

Here is a video of the k3 final (its like K2 except they wear a headgear)

So we arrived at 11am for the sart of the event, unfortunatly Max fighting in 85kg we had to wait until 6pm for his fight categorie to start.

His fight was the number 103 on the schedule...So we spend most time of the day waiting, waiting, and also waiting.

But the wait didnt get on his "apetite for destruction", Max won easily his fight unanimously.

He is now selected to participate in the "K2 grand prix". thats gonna be a tournament with the other 85kg winners of the day.

a brand new challenge in view, im gonna face Kuntap weerasakrek M-1 champion.

First time im gonna fight a thai guy, + the fight is gonna be at 70kg.

lots of hours of training in view for that even, yes by the way im gonna be the MAIN EVENT!!

i want to give all my best, i have nothing to loose.
